Nangarhar rally seeks halt to violence against women

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some youth in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday demanded halt to violence against womeninfo-icon and asked the government to pay serious attention to their demand.

The AWLDO staged a rally in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, which was attended by some youth. The rally started from Public Heath Square and continued till the Pashtunistan Square.

Sifatullah Sangin, the organiser of the rally, said this was part of the 16-day campaign on violence against women launched by civil societyinfo-icon movements nation-wide.

The purpose of the rally, he said was, to spread awareness about the eradication of voilece against women and send a message for not to commit violence against women.

Parviz Khogyaniwal, a rally participant, called on men to stop violence against women and added violence against women paved the way to violence between families.

“The reason why I took part in the rally is that women still faced violence and want this practice to be stopped,” he said.

Bilal Afzali, another participant, said Islam has banned violence against women but this happened due to the low level of educationinfo-icon among Afghans.
