Imran assures US of cooperation in Afghanistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Prime Minister Imran Khan has renewed Pakistaninfo-icon’s call for a political settlement to achieve permanent peace and reconciliation in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

During a meeting with US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Wednesday, Khan reiterated Pakistan's abiding interest in a peaceful Afghanistan.

On his third visit to Pakistan since his appointment in September, the Afghanistan-born diplomat conveyed good wishes from President Donald Trump to Khan.

The US leadership looked forward to working with Pakistan in furthering the shared goal of peace through a political settlement in Afghanistan, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office quoted Khalilzad as saying.

Prime Minister Khan recalled his personal commitment to the cause of regional peace and welcomed a recent letter written to him by President Trump, who sought Pakistan's cooperation on ending the Afghan conflict.
