16 rebels killed in Ghazni raids, Taliban refute

Dec 13, 2018 - 18:50

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Sixteen Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed during airstrikes and clashes with security forces in Qarabagh district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Thursday.

A number of other insurgents were wounded during the operations conducted last night in many areas of the district, said the governor’s spokesman, Arif Noori.

He said three Pakistani militants were among the dead. He said 10 rebels were wounded and two civilians were killed and three others wounded during the joint operations. However, he did not say who killed and injured the civilians.

A resident of Kobi area of Qarabagh district, Shah Mohammad, said clashes had been ongoing in the district over the past three days. He said so far one civilian had been killed and another wounded.

The Taliban rejected their fighters had suffered casualties in Qarabagh operations, claiming seven civilians were killed in airstrikes.

Local officials have said around 300 Taliban fighters were killed in Ghazni province last month.
