3 of a family killed as rocket hits Paktia home

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Three members of a family were killed and four others wounded when a rocket hit their home in the capital of southeastern Paktia province on Saturday, residents said.

The incident happened in Ibrahimkhel area of Gardez, said local residents, who accused security forces of firing the rocket. But security officials blamed the incident on the Talibaninfo-icon.

An elder in Ibrahimkhel village, Rozi Khan Khpalwak, told Pajhwok similar rockets had been previously fired by uprising and government forces. He had many times complained about the shelling to government authorities but nothing happened.

Hassan, a relative of the victims, said two children and one woman of the family were killed and another four injured in the rocket strike. He believed the rocket had been fired by local police forces.

Paktia police spokesman Sardar Wali Tabassum rejected security forces had fired the rocket that killed and wounded civilians. He said insurgents attacked a security forces convoy on the Gardez-Zurmat road, resulting an exchange of fire.

A few days back, some civilians suffered casualties in ground and air operations in Zurmat district.
