Durand Line fencing to be completed in a year

Durand Line fencing to be completed in a year

Dec 16, 2018 - 10:00

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The fencing of Durand Lineinfo-icon, a project vehemently opposed by Afghanistaninfo-icon, will be completed by next December, the Pakistaninfo-icon Army says. .

As Islamabad believes the fence will help contain terrorist activities, Kabulinfo-icon says it does not recognise the British-era frontier as an international frontier.

Despite Afghanistan’s reservations, Pakistan is working on the fence along the porous Durand Line running from tribal areas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The fencing of the 2,611 kilometre frontier would be completed by the end of 2019, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor tweeted on Saturday.

He said 233 of 843 forts and fencing of 802 of 1,200 kilometres priority areas had been completed. The project would benefit the peaceful people of the two countries, he hoped.

In May this year, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa inaugurated work on erecting fences along the line near the Panjpai area of Balochistan.
