KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A credible source on Wednesday said some important decisions about peace with the Talibaninfo-icon were expected to take place, saying ‘peace is within reach, but the process needs time.’

For the last three days, Taliban and US representatives discussed peace in Afghanistaninfo-icon in two phases in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

A credible source in Abu Dhabi told Pajhwok Afghan News whatever decisions made in the UAE would be based on national interests.

The source said neither the Afghan government nor the Taliban had requested for the establishment of an interim government.

However, the source, who actively took part in the peace talks, did not provide more information about progress and challenges in the process.

Over the past two days, some foreign media outlets have been reporting that an interim government, elections and a ceasefire were discussed in meetings between the Taliban and the United States in the UAE.

But the Taliban said they did not discuss the creation of an interim government and elections with US diplomats in the UAE.

The Afghan government on Tuesday said its peace negotiating team had reached the UAE and was making preparations to meet with Taliban representatives face to face.

But the Taliban had said they would meet only US representatives.
