Peace a few months away, claims Daudzai

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Newly-appointed High Peace Councilinfo-icon secretary Omar Daudzai on Wednesday said peace would be coming to Afghanistaninfo-icon in the next few months.

Daudzai, also special presidential representative for regional consensus on peace, formally took charge of his offices at a gathering in Kabul.

It comes as a marathon three-day dialogue between US and Talibaninfo-icon representatives conclude in the UAE on Wednesday.

US special representative for reconciliation in Afghanistan after the talks in Abu Dhabi, said the meetings were productive.

“We will be witnessing progress in the peace process in the coming few months,” Daudzai said, adding a team would be formed soon for working on a peace agreement with the Taliban.

“The good news for the Afghans is that peace is approaching, but it will take months not days or week.”

He said there was consensus on international levels about peace in Afghanistan, but the same was yet to develop within the country.

Daudzai said his job was to create consensus regarding peace on national and regional levels.

HPC chief Karim Khalili on the occasion said they welcomed peace talks arranged by any country and organization. He said the ground had been paved for peace and ending the conflict in the country.
