7 security personnel killed in Faryab clash

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Five Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel, two policemen have been killed and two check-posts captured by the Talibaninfo-icon in the Qaisar district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Thursday.

District Police Chief Abdul Ahad Dehzad told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban attacked security forces check-posts in the Arkelik locality on Wednesday night.

Ten ANA personnel were wounded and five others went missing in the overnight attack, he said, adding the Taliban suffered casualties in the last night clash.

Provincial Council Member Syed Abdul Baqi Hashami while acknowledging the overnight clash accused the government and claimed around 50 security personnel had been killed and injured during clashes in Arkelik in the past one and half month.

A senior Taliban member in Faryab claimed 13 security personnel were killed, 12 rockets, machine gun Kalashnikovs and M16 captured in the overnight clash.

One Taliban fighter was killed and two injured in the firefight, he said.
