Ghazni conflict, disaster hit families receive assistance

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Affected by recent clashes and natural disasters in southern Ghazni province, 1,700 families have been provided with cash assistance.

Governor Wahidullah Kalemzai said thousands of families in Ghazni like other provinces have been displaced from their homes to other places due to armed clashes.

He said some families had been provided with food assistance in the past but 1,700 more families got cash assistance today (Thursday).

“Some families had been affected by natural disaster and every family was provided with 10,000 Afghanis cash assistance,” he said.

The governor added that work on the distribution of plots in the second township was underway and some legal proceeding had been completed.

But Samiullah, who received the aid, said most of the time deserving people not provided with assistance.

“Names of individual who have reference are most of the time added to the list and deserving people are often missed,” he said.

Abdul Khaleq Ahmadi, head of the refugees department, said they conduct a survey of deserving people and then distribute assistance to them.

Ahmadi warned more families may migrate to Ghazni City due to insecurity as fighting in 14 Ghazni district was ongoing.
