Garziwan police chief succumbed to injuries

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The police chief of Garziwan district of northwestern Faryab province has succumbed to injuries he sustained when hit by a mortar shell on Monday evening.

Sibghatullah Silab, deputy Faryab provincial council head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Abdul Sammad Garziwani, the police chief of Garziwan district was injured and three soldiers were killed in the incident.

He said that Garziwani was succumbed on his way to Mazar-I-Sharif hospital.

“The governor’s house was transferring the police chief to hospitals in Mazar-I-Sharif through helicopter, but he was in critical situation and was returned to Shebrghan hospital, but he lost his life to injuries,” he said.

Silab said that Garziwani was a successful commander who fought for several years against militants.

The moral of security forces in the district would weaken with the death of the police chief and the district would probably fall to militants, he said.
