Iranians among 29 insurgents killed in Faryab clashes

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least 29 Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been killed, including two Iranian nationals, in clashes with security forces in northwestern Faryab province, the military said on Wednesday.

A statement from the Afghan National Army’s 209thShaheen Military Corps said the rebels sustained casualties in Sherin Tagab and Khwaja Sabzposh districts during the past 24 hours.

Twenty-nine rebels, including two Iranian militants Mullahinfo-icon Ahmad and Mullah Jandullah (not real names) were killed during firefight on the highway, it said.

Another two notorious commanders Mullah Nasrat and Mullah Sade were also among the dead who were killed in an airstrike in Khwaja Sabzposh.

The military cited intelligence organs saying another 23 rebels were injured and the hideout of Shafiq Haqyar, a local Taliban commander, was destroyed.

On the other hand, four security forces were slightly wounded during a clash on the Maimana-Andkhoi highway.

The Taliban have not yet commented about these incidents.
