KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least 150 drug addicts were collected from various areas in Kabul and shifted to Ibni Sina hospital for treatment by government authorities on Monday, an official said.

The addicts were collected from areas falling in the jurisdiction of the 11th police district of Kabul city during a joint campaign of the ministries of public healthinfo-icon, social affairs and work, interior and counternarcotics, said Dr. Abdul Jabbar, head of the 1000-bed Ibni Sina hospital.

He told media persons that the treatment period of the drug addicts had been reduced from three months to 45 days due to the large number of addicts.

He said provided quality treatment to addicts brought to the hospital from Pul-i-Sokhta, Pul-i-Artal, Shadoshamshira, Kotasangi and other places of Kabul city.

After their treatment, the addicts are handed over to their families and some of them are selected for a six-month vocational training by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

According to Dr. Ahmad Zahir Sultani, addicts’ treatment department official at the Ministry of Public Health, drugs addicts are treated at 107 centers across the country.

Aminullah, who has been using drugs for five years, said: “This is my 3rd time to be treated quit the habit.”

He believed collecting addicts for treatment would not help overcome the issue as long as drugs sellers and dealers were not arrested.
