PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The commander of a military company tasked with protecting the highway in northern Baghlan province has been killed in a Talibaninfo-icon attack, a public representative said Monday.

Samiuddin Nazer, a member of the Baghlan provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban insurgents attacked a police patrol in Kilagi area of Doshi district on Sunday night.

The highway company commander, 2nd Lt. Fawad Attai, was killed and three policemen were wounded in the attack, he said, adding the rebels tried to hijack six fuel tankers on the highway but failed.

However, Dr. Abdul Halim Ghafari, deputy public healthinfo-icon director, said one dead body of a policeman and nine injured people had been brought to the civil hospital in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital.

“Three civilians and six policemen who were injured in the incident have been delivered at the hospital and their condition is stable,” he said.

Baghlan security officials refused to comment about the incident as per orders of the Ministry of Interior.

The Taliban also have so far said nothing about the attack, which comes a week after nine police were killed in a Taliban attack on a security post in Pul-i-Khumri.
