Herat municipality assailed over not spending uplift budget

Herat municipality assailed over not spending uplift budget

Jan 07, 2019 - 20:04

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Members of the Herat City Council say the municipality has been unable to spend its 300 million afghanis development budget during the last fiscal year.

Abdul Rahman Mualvizada, deputy head of the council, said the municipality in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, had enough money to complete some projects, but it failed to do due to lack of proper administration.

Some provincial council members also expressed concern in this regard and said the municipality budget was public money and if not used, it would widen the gap between the municipality and citizens.

Sakina Hussaini, a member of the Provincial Council, said: “If people are offered services sincerely and they witness positive changes, they will give taxes eagerly, otherwise their distrust would grow and the municipality budget may decline.”

Officials of the municipality acknowledged they had funds, but they were not authorized to spend them on the completion of the last fiscal year.
