Iran desires peace and stability in Afghanistan: Shamkhani

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The top Iranian security official has reiterated his country’s desire for peace and stability in Afghanistaninfo-icon by encouraging the Talibaninfo-icon and Afghan government to negotiate.

Iranian secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani to IRNA on Monday that the Taliban had been seeking peace with the Afghan government and Tehran was helping the process to promote stability and peace in the country.

Iran is peace-seeking and has no domineering intentions,' said Ali Shamkhani on the sidelines of the International Conference on Defense and Security in West Asia held in the Supreme National Defense University in northern Tehran.
Iran has taken up a policy to disappoint the US. Iran has no forces to pull out from the region. Iranian forces in the region are only advisors, he said.
'Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and Yemen are defending themselves and we have no forces in the region.'

Iran has been accused of supporting the Taliban to carry out insurgent activities in Afghanistan particularly in the western Part of the country.

Recently, Iranian weapons had been discovered by security forces in Ghazni province.
