Gen. Murad says he resigned to fight ‘injustices’

Gen. Murad says he resigned to fight ‘injustices’

Jan 16, 2019 - 18:33

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Kabul garrison commander Gen. Murad Ali Murad on Wednesday said he recently resigned from his post to join an electoral ticket ahead of July presidential election, claiming injustices have increased and people lost trust in the system.

Talking to journalists here, Murad said the president had approved his resignation.

The former interior minister for security said that Wednesday was his last day in office and he could no longer continue his job with the government.

Gen. Murad has worked in different positions in the security and defense organs for four decades. He thanked the Kabul garrison workers who he said worked with him as a team and followed his orders.

The Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) could not manage the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon elections or investigate fraud despite having support of security forces, said Murad. “This issue has affected me and the people”, he said.

He called on people to put pressure on the election commission for serious reforms and to hold the presidential election transparently and fairly. Murad said he would back an electoral ticket that was acceptable to the Afghan people.
