JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Authorities on Thursday began demolishing houses illegally built on 1500 acres of government land in the Rodat district of eastern Nangarhar province.

Led by the governor, a security and judicial delegation visited the district and ordered bulldozing the structures in Surkh Diwal area.

Governor Hayatullah Hayat said more than 600 acres of land had been allotted to a person namely Charkhi in the area but they had encroached upon 2000 acres.

He said the usurped land would be reclaimed and those involved in selling and buying the plots would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He said the Surkh Diwal area carried great importance for development projects in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, and the area would be completely cleared of land usurpers.
