Woman among 4 shot dead in Taliban-controlled area

Jan 19, 2019 - 14:13

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead four people, including a woman, in a Talibaninfo-icon-controlled area of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.

Mirwais Syedzai, Khwaja Sabzposh district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the victims of the Friday night shooting included 70-year-old Ghulam Sakhi, 30-year-old Jan Mohammad and a young woman.

He said unidentified gunmen had shot dead Shaheen in Ghazar area, which is under Taliban’s control, on Thursday night. He blamed the rebels, saying they wanted to spread fear among people.

A security source told Pajhwok on condition of anonymity that Afghan and coalition forces conducted an operation in Ghazari area, killing 30 militants and destroying Qari Tajuddin’s hideout.

The rebels also targeted some pro-government uprising commanders after the raid. A local Taliban commander confirmed the killing of three men and a woman but denied the group’s involvement.
