8 security forces killed, 10 wounded in Logar car-bombing

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least eight security personnel were killed and ten others wounded on Sunday when a suicide car bombing hit convoy of the governor of central Logar province, an official said.

Shamshad Larawai, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that National Directorate of security (NDSinfo-icon)’s personnel and the governor’s guards were among eight security forces were killed and ten others wounded in the car-bombing.

Earlier, provincial police spokesman, Shapoor Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok the car bomb ripped through the governor’s convoy in the Safid Sang area of Mohammad Agha district at around 10:30am.

He said 15 security personnel suffered casualties in the bombing. Security forces had rushed to the site and cordoned off the area and closed the highway for traffic. The governor survived the attack.

But Abdul Wali Wakil, deputy chairman of the provincial council, claimed 20 security officials suffered casualties in the bombing.

“The governor and the intelligence chief were heading to Logar from Kabulinfo-icon. The security personnel were waiting for them in Safid Sang area, where the suicide bomber hit the governor’s convoy,” he added.

Wakil continued six vehicles, including a pick-up were damaged as a result of the explosion, claimed by the Talibaninfo-icon.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman, said several members of the Special Forces had suffered casualties in the bombing.

Around ten months back, Logar’s deputy governor Qamruddin Shakib and the governor’s spokesman Saleem Saleh among five people had been killed in a Taliban attack in Waghjan locality of the Mohammad Agha district of the province.
