KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Intelligence forces detained a 30-member militant group which operated separately in three groups in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.

Arrested within a week, the detainees have been accused of planting landmines, launching terrorist activities and targeted killings in districts and Kandahar City, the provincial capital.

The detainees had been operating in three separate networks and were captured with local people’s cooperation, an intelligence official who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the detainees would force people into paying them money and food items.

They were arrested within a week based on people information and cooperation with the National Directorate of security (NDSinfo-icon) personnel.

The detainees have confessed to their crimes including terrorist attacks and targeted killings of government officials and tribal elders in the Kandahar city.
