Taliban resume peace talks with Khalilzad in Qatar

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon representatives resumed talks with US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in the Qatari capital Doha, the militant group said in a statement.

The American side arrived at the negotiation table after accepting the agenda to end violence in Afghanistaninfo-icon and that the country posed no threat to other countries and met Taliban representatives in Doha, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said in the statement.

He said the meeting in Doha would continue tomorrow as well.

Khalilzad had been in Islamabad for four days holding talks with Pakistani officials on the Afghanistan peace process.

The US envoy had said the US was ready for peace which could answer to the legitimate concerns of all Afghans.

He had said there were concerns that the US had adopted the policy of talking and fighting in Afghanistan, but Washington wanted peace.

Before arriving in Islamabad, Khalilzad travelled to India, China and Afghanistan. After his talks in Pakistaninfo-icon, the US envoy had said he awaited “concrete progress” on Afghan peace talks.

Khalilzad reached Islamabad on Thursday and met Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.
