Woman allegedly burns husband, daughter alive in Nangarhar

Woman allegedly burns husband, daughter alive in Nangarhar

Jan 21, 2019 - 22:03

JALABAD (Pajhwok): Police on Monday arrested a woman on suspicion of burning alive her husband and a daughter in Surkhrud district of eastern Nangarhar province, local officials said Monday.

Local officials and residents accused the detained woman of ‘intentionally’ setting alight their tent home in Qala Naw village, in which her husband and a daughter died.

An eyewitness of the incident, Noorullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had run over to the scene after spotting flames in the tent. He said the couple would often fight.

District officials confirmed the incident and said police had arrested the woman over suspicion of burning her spouse, Sher Mohammad, and their minor daughter.

Surkhrud district chief Syed Ali Akbar Sadat said Sher Mohammad’s wife had been accused of setting the tent alight intentionally.

Nangarhar crime branch police chief Mohammad Akbar Javed said the slain person’s family had identified his wife, Zeenat, as the prime suspect and that was why she had been detained.

Efforts at seeking comment from the family of Sher Mohammad and the detained woman went up in smoke.
