KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Fifteen Afghan students have returned to the country after completing post graduation in different disciplines in the United Kingdom (UK).

Giles Lever, the UK deputy ambassador in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News the returning students had successfully qualified an online test offered by the UK Embassy in 2017 before they were sent the UK for master’s level studies.

He said individuals who had completed bachelor’s study and had demonstrable leadership potential, with strong grip on English and having passed ILETs test could participate in the educationinfo-icon scheme.

Lever said last year as many as 2,000 Afghans applied for the Chevening Scholarship program, in which 15 persons, including six womeninfo-icon, were successful.

Sibghatullah Stanikzai, one of the graduates, said: “I completed my one year master’s level education in the UK in oil and gas discipline. This program is effective for Afghans in improving their capacities as most of these individuals are hired in policy making position in the Afghan government.”

He said the Afghanistaninfo-icon mining sector needed more professional and expert persons and hoped he would get job there and work for development and uplift of Afghanistan.
