SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Residents of northern Sar-i-Pul province have donated 275 acres of land, costing 35 million afghanis, to 115 schools, an official said on Saturday.

Educationinfo-icon Director Abdul Ghafoor said the people donated 550,000 square metres of land in the provincial capital and districts. More than 90 percent of schools in the province had buildings.

The remaining 10 percent schools would get building under the Citizens’ Charter Afghanistaninfo-icon Project in near future, he said, adding several schools were currently operating under tents or the open sky.

Governor Abdul Qader Ashna, meanwhile, thanked residents for their humanitarian gesture, saying the construction of new buildings for schools would resolve problems of students and teachers.

Residents of Sar-i-Pul also welcomed the donation of land to schools, hoping the move would steer their children from ignorance to knowledge.
