JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor on Monday inaugurated the spring tree plantation drive in eastern Nangarhar province, urging people to pay special attention to environment protection.
“The agriculture department’s target is to plant 2.1 million saplings in spring season across the province,” Governor Hayatullah Hayat told a ceremony marking the campaign launch in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
The governor said previously planted trees had dried because poor attention was paid to them
Of the total seedlings, around 168, 000 had been produced by the agriculture department, which would be planted at public places, institutions and other areas free of cost and the rest of the trees had been produced by private nurseries and NGOs.
The saplings, including fruit and non-fruit trees, would be cultivated besides Nangarhar in Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan provinces.
