TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Security officials in northeastern Takhar province on Wednesday said they were seriously investigating the killing of two radio employees to arrest the killers.

Sameen Hamsada, the Hamsada radio’s director, told Pajhwok Afghan News that unidentified armed men shot to death two of her radio employees late Tuesday night.

She said the gunmen entered the radio station and took the gate’s guard and the radio’s spokesman, Shafiq Arya, to a room and shot dead them there. She said they had received no threat from Talibaninfo-icon or other groups prior to the attack.

Hamsada urged security organs to strongly pay attention to media people’s security in the province.

Ajmal Kakar, Kabulinfo-icon Press Club official in the northern zone, told Pajhwok it was a painful incident for media outlets.

He warned if security of media persons was not ensured, most of media outlets in the province would be closed.

However, police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Rashid Bashir told Pajhwok they had launched a serious investigation into the radio’s employees killing.

“We have not received any complaints from the radio personnel about security threats. If any media outlet face security threat, they should share them with us, we will try to remove the threat or provide security.”
