PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Police have seized an arms depot and nearly 8,000 kilograms of explosives in the Azra district of central Logar province, an official said on Saturday.

Police spokesman Shahpur Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the Special Forces conducted a raid in Arghak village of the district on Saturday.

The security forces seized a huge cache of weapons and 7,750 kilograms of explosives (ammonium nitrate) belonging to Talibaninfo-icon insurgents, he said.

“Two books on bomb-making techniques, one Kalashnikov, two hand grenades and several other weapons were seized from a suspect named Allah Mohammad,” he added.

Deputy Chairman of Provincial Council Abdul Wali Wakeel endorsed Ahmadzai’s version. “Azra has strategic importance for Taliban, who pose threats to the security of Paktia, Nangarhar and Kabulinfo-icon provinces from there.”

The road linking Azra, the most insecure district of the province, with Pul-i-Alam and Kabul has been closed for the past decade and a half.
