Indian firms offered joint exploration of Afghan oil, gas

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Nargis Nehan has offered Indian companies joint exploration of hydrocarbon reserves in Afghanistaninfo-icon, a statement said on Sunday.

Nargis made the offer during a meeting with her Indian counterpart Dharmendra Pradhan on the sidelines of Petrotech 2019, an international oil and gas conference and exhibition in New Delhi.

Both the sides discussed ways how to further enrich bilateral co-operation and talked about the TAPI project and the essence of collaboration with other nations. Nargis said Afghanistan possessed a huge variety of untapped natural resources including oil and gas.

For the past two years, the government of Afghanistan has been working to develop its oil and gas industry, she said.

She said the huge potential of natural resources made Afghanistan the most welcoming country to invest in renewable energy and the government was working on reforms to improve the situation.

She said Afghanistan needed increase in domestic demand of energy to increase revenue of the sector.
