25 Taliban fighters killed in Kandahar operation

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least 25 Talibaninfo-icon fighters have been killed and many of their hideouts destroyed by Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police forces in Arighistan district of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Wednesday.

Imaminfo-icon Nazar Bahbod, commander of 205th Attal Military Corps told Pajhwok Afghan News that 25 Taliban militants were killed and several of their hideouts destroyed during the operation.

He said it was the first operation launched jointly in Arghistan district in the last two years.

Bahbod said that many of insurgents’ bombs making factories were also identified and perished during the operation.

Kandahar police chief Gen. Taiden Khan, who had traveled to the district, said the aim of the operation was to reopen closed roads in Arghistan district.

He added that the operations were carried out by Afghan forces and supported by foreign troops. Tadin Khan claimed several insurgents were killed and wounded and large swaths of areas were cleared during the offensive.

Residents of the area say the roads and markets have been opened after operations and local people could travel without fear.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the regard.
