Taliban may meet Saudi crown prince in Pakistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Amid efforts at ending the conflict in Afghanistaninfo-icon, Talibaninfo-icon leaders may meet the Saudi crown prince in Pakistaninfo-icon, a news report said on Saturday.

Mohammed bin Salman is scheduled to arrive on Sunday (tomorrow) in Pakistan, where he could hold talks with a Taliban delegation on Afghan peace process.

The Reuters news agency quoted an unnamed Pakistani official as saying "Though it is a top secret so far, there are strong indications representatives of the Afghan Taliban will meet Prince Salman during his visit to Pakistan on February 18." 

A Qatar-based Taliban leader told the news outlet that no decision had been taken yet on whether or not they would meet the Saudi dignitary.

"Actually meeting Prince Salman is not in the plan so far but we can discuss it when we are in Islamabad," said the Taliban representative.

A Taliban team is expected to arrive in Islamabad for talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan, whose administration is believed to be playing a crucial role in promoting the Afghan peace parleys.
