Slain cop’s son ‘commits’ suicide at Kunduz police HQ

Slain cop’s son ‘commits’ suicide at Kunduz police HQ

Feb 20, 2019 - 20:11

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Son of a slain Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier allegedly committed suicide inside the police headquarters in northern Kunduz province over delay or non-transfer of his father’s corpse.

Police spokesman Enamuddin Rahmani told Pajhwok Afghan News the man came to the police headquarters two days back and demanded the body of his ANA father who served in Faryab province and was killed there.

Rahmani said the man had been demanding ‘a prompt’ transfer of his father’s corpse, but after a few minutes he lost his patience, snatched a police gun and shot himself to death.”

Rahmani said a policeman had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Provincial Council member Amruddin Wai said it was an unfortunate incident which showed the security sector lacked proper strategy to transfer the body from Faryab.

“How can an ordinary man snatch a gun from police in police headquarters and shoot himself. He would have killed many police, was he a terrorist,” he said.

In the past, delays have been reported in transfer of security personnel bodies and injured personnel.
