5,000 Urdu language textbooks found in Paktika

SHARAN (Pajhwok): Thousands of Pakistani Urdu language textbooks have been found in the provincial Educationinfo-icon Department of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Sunday.

A month back, some residents of the Barmal district claimed that Pakistani curriculum was taught to students in the district’s private schools.

Governor Mujeeb Rahman Samkani said he discovered the 5,000 Urdu language textbooks during his inspection of the education department. He urged education officials to share the issue with the Provincial Council after seriously investigating it.

Nabi Ziarmal, a resident, told Pajhwok that private schools in Barmal district had long been teaching Pakistani curriculum to their students instead of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s due to lack of attention from the provincial education department.

He said Governor Samkani along with intelligence personnel seized 5,000 Urdu language textbooks from a store of the education department.

The education department also confirmed the issue in a statement which said the books were for students of refugees from Pakistaninfo-icon’s South Waziristan region, who had migrated to the province as a result of the Pakistani army operations.
