PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): India is putting regional stability, including the peace process in Afghanistaninfo-icon, at risk in pursuit of its political and electoral targets, Pakistaninfo-icon has told the United States.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi conveyed the warning in a telephonic conversation to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday, the Foreign Office in Islamabad said.

Qureshi, who voiced deep concern at the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) violation of the Line of Control (LoC), told Pompeo the violation deserved condemnation.

He hoped that the United States would play its role in defusing the situation and apprised Pompeo of India’s border violations, as well as the emotions of the Pakistani government, parliament and people.

“Pakistan desires regional peace and stability but we cannot compromise our stability,” Qureshi said, adding Islamabad had already informed the international community about New Delhi’s intentions.

Joint peace efforts by the US and Pakistan for bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan could be affected by India’s aggression, the foreign minister told his American counterpart.

On Tuesday, India claimed its fighter jets had bombed a camp of Jaish-i-Mohammad group, blamed for a deadly suicide attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir earlier this month.
