KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Dubai-based Emirates Airline has announced cancelling flights to Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon.

The announcement comes amid fresh tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi over a deadly attack on an Indian military base in Kashmir.

Late on Wednesday, the Emirates Airline said it had scrapped all Pakistan and Afghanistan flights for Thursday due to the closure of both countries’ airspace.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Airlines -- Saudia -- suspended all flights to Pakistan in response to increased military tensions.

Fahad Bahdailah, Saudia’s VP of corporate communications, said: “It is a standard procedure that we take under such circumstances.”

Due to air space closure by Pakistan, all Saudia flights to and from the country had been suspended until further notice, he added.

Also on Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced the closure of Pakistan’s airspace for commercial flights.

The Emirates Airline advised passengers flying to Pakistan to rebook tickets.
