Project contracts worth 1.7bn afs signed in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) on Saturday signed contracts for uplift projects worth 1.7 billion afghanis in Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Balkh, Faryab and Uruzgan provinces.

The projects, which include graveling and asphalting of 47 kilometres of roads and construction of two bridges measuring 84 metres, would be executed in the five provinces, said Public Works Minister Yama Yari said at the contracts signing ceremony.

One of the contracts was about construction of the Behsud Bridge Road until Abdulkhel area and another road that connects Jalalabad City with Kunar province.

He said the 12-kilometre long and 40 metres wide road also contained 29 culverts and would cost 1.5 billion afghanis from the government development budget.

Another five construction projects, including the Pul Balagh bridge in Dehrawud district of Uruzgan, the Nakhjir bridge in Badakhshan, the rehabilitation of a 16 kilometre-road, construction of the Maimana-Balcharagh Road, would cost 200 milliion afghanis.

The representative of Mashriq Engineering company, who spoke on behalf of the private firm, said the Behsud-Abdulkhel Road which connected Jalalabad with Kunar province was an important project.

He added agricultureinfo-icon land and some buildings were situated on the road and sought the authorities concerned help in acquiring land.
