HPC postponed Peace Jirga till indefinite time

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): High Peace Councilinfo-icon (HPC) on Sunday said consultative peace Loya Jirgainfo-icon (Grand Council) was delayed for an indefinite time due to bad weather condition and recent heavy snow and rain falls in parts of the country.

The consultative Loya Jirga for peace was expected to hold on March 17 in Kabul, for a consensus over mechanism of peace negotiations, defining fundamental lines and a possible agreement with the Talibaninfo-icon.

Asadullah Zayeri, deputy spokesman of HPC, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the meeting was delayed for an indefinite time for what he said technical problems and continues snow and rainfalls that caused closure of roads in some parts of the country.

He did not talk about a possible new date for the meeting but said Technical Commission of the HPC would make a decision on the regard following a presidential decree.

Work for preparation to the meeting is going normal but it could not be inclusive or represent the whole societyinfo-icon when most of people face with floods and closure of roads so the meeting could not be hold on its schedule, he added.

Earlier, Mohammad Omar Daudzai, president’s special representative for peace consensus in the region and secretary of HPC, had said that the president would release a decree for holding consultative Loya Jirga for peace which would be attended by around 2,000 people including 30 percent of them womeninfo-icon.

He had said the meeting would hold between March 17 to March 20 in Kabul.

However, the president yet to release a decree on the regard as a week passes from Daudzai’s remarks.
