India, Pakistan ceasefire violation leaves 4 persons dead

India, Pakistan ceasefire violation leaves 4 persons dead

Mar 03, 2019 - 15:27

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Seven Pakistanis, including two soldiers, have been killed and three others injured in cross boarder firing on the Line of Control (LoC), a defector border between the two countries in Jammu and Kashmir region.

The recent casualties happened after Pakistaninfo-icon handed over captured Indian pilot as peace gesture and part of Islamabad’s efforts to de-escalate the ongoing tension which may lead to all-out war between the two nuclear powers.

The firing comes as Pakistan and India reel from a week of high escalation which had raised fears of an all-out war after the Pakistan Air Force shot down two Indian aircraft for violating Pakistani airspace.

Analysts had expected the situation to de-escalate on Friday evening as Prime Minister Imran Khan released a captured Indian pilot, in an overture towards New Delhi.

Pakistan and India remained historic rivals since their inception back in 1947. The two nations had fought three wars on the disputed region of Kashmir since their birth.
