Salang Pass reopens for passenger vehicles after 2-day closure

CHARIKARinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Salang Passinfo-icon, linking Kabulinfo-icon with northern parts of the country, was reopened for traffic on Sunday evening after two days closure, an official said.

Eng. Abdul Basir Habibi, the highway maintenance commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News the busy mountainous route was reopened for traffic on Sunday.

Earlier, Habibi informed about over one metre of snowfall in Salang Pass and occurrence of 25 avalanches.

However, a statement from the highway maintenance department, confirmed to Pajhwok that after the completion of clearing operation the highway was reopened for traffic on Sunday at around 4:00pm.

Salang Pass remain dangerous for passengers during winter as it often remain shut due to heavy snowfall and fear of avalanches.
