JALALABAD (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday laid the foundation stones of some development projects worth 777 million afghanis and inaugurated others during a visit to eastern Kunar province, but left without addressing a planned public gathering.

Journlists waited for hours in Asadabad, the provincial capital, to cover the president’s address to the gathering, but the event was canceled and reporters were told that the president had left.

A video footage of President Ghani’s meetings with different groups was handed over to the reporters instead.

The president broke the ground on some projects over 777 million, including a 200-bed hospital, a clinic in Khas Kunar district, a new building for the Public Healthinfo-icon Department, a womeninfo-icon hostel at Syed Jamaluddin University, sportsinfo-icon gymnasim and Eid Gah Mosqueinfo-icon.

Individuals who met the president expressed their happiness over the president’s visit to the province, but others termed the trip as part of his election campaign.

Shah Jahan Pacha, a tribal elder from Sawaki District, said the president also promised the launch of development projects, management of Kunar’s water, and new faculties in Kunar University.

Religisou scholar Mohammad Ajmal said the president heard issues being faced by religious schoars and assured to resolve them.

But Mohammad Shoiab Gharawal, head of the Kunar civil socieities coordination centre, termed the president’s trip as useless and said the president had nothing new for the people of Kuanr during his trip.
