2 soldiers among 10 security personnel killed in Taliban attack

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 10 security personnel, including Afghan Local Police have been killed and 12 others wounded in a Talibaninfo-icon attack on their check-posts in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Thursday.

The fatalities included eight Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel and two Afghan National Army (ANA), Fahim Qirleq, the Qala-i-Zal district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The militants stormed security check-posts in the Aq Tepa locality of the district late on Wednesday night. A dozen security force members were wounded in the clash that continued till morning.

After the arrival of reinforcements in the area, the fighters were pushed back, the said district chief, who had no information about Taliban’s causalities.

Allah Nazar, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok the insurgents had captured some check-posts as a result of the overnight attack.

Meanwhile, the rebel group confirmed the clash. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said 30 security forces were killed and dozens wounded in the Qala-i-Zal firefight.
