JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Five officials from different government departments have been detained over corruption charges at the Torkham Township in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Monday.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that five corrupt employees were detained as part of an anti-corruption campaign led by Governor Mahmmod Miakhel.

He said two of the detainees belonged to Torkham commissary, two to the revenue and one to the transport department and they were arrested by the crime branch police.

According to Khogyani, the cases of these detainees would be referred to the Attorney General Office soon.

According to another report, Nangarhar police chief has appointed four new heads of security departments to bring reforms and prevent corruption.

Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sanai Stanikzai said the newly-appointed personnel of crime branch department also met with Governor Mahmood Miakhel.

Based on the Interior Ministry decree, Col. Syed Khalil Ahmad has been appointed as deputy administrative commander, Maj. Majeed as commander of special unit, Fazal Karim as crime branch chief, Farhad as walkie talkie head and Col. Atiqullah Imaq as traffic department head and they had taken over charge.

The arrests follow a Pajhwok Afghan News report about corruption in Torkahm Township.
