Khalilzad, Rahmani meet on US-Taliban parleys

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Top US and Afghan diplomats have held discussions on marathon peace negotiations between representatives of the Trump administration and Talibaninfo-icon.

US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad and Afghan Ambassador in Washington Roya Rahmani met on the peace parleys on Tuesday, the State Department said.

After the meeting,” Khalilzad tweeted. “We had a substantive discussion and talked next steps in the Afghan peace process. It is neither an easy nor straight path we are walking,”

He underlined the need for joint US-Afghan efforts on the reconciliation front. “To stay on track, it’s of utmost importance we continue to walk it together,” the US envoy wrote.

Multiple rounds of peace talks have taken place between the US and Taliban in Doha, with both sides indicating progress on counter-terrorism assurances and foreign troop withdrawal from Afghanistaninfo-icon.
