KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The government leaders condemned the attack on a ceremony celebrating Farmers Day in southern Helmand province, saying enemies of Afghans trying to conceal their defeat in the battlefield by carrying out such actions.

Four people including economy director of Helmand were killed and 31others including deputy governor, a number of members of the provincial council, a local reporter, agricultureinfo-icon director and educationinfo-icon director wounded in two blasts in a ceremony marking Farmers Day in Lashkargah, capital Helmand on Saturday.

President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack in a statement, saying  "Terrorists, who are the enemies of happiness, the bright future, and development of the country, are always attacking civilian ceremonies, occasions and public places in order to spread fear and terror and with such actions, they hide their defeat on the battlefield,”

The president directed officials concerned to assist the families of the victims and take steps to heal the wounded of the incident.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also condemned the attack and described it as a crime against humanity. “This attack has no any justification because it is in conflict with Islamic and human values,” he said.

Attacks like this cannot stop progress in the country, but would further increase the determination of Afghans to build a strong Afghanistaninfo-icon, he said.

"Terrorists will carry out any type of violence and terror in order to achieve their goals, but with the help of the security forces and the people, they will not succeed,” CEO said.

Abdullah said Afghan security and defense forces were ready to sacrifice for the defense of their country and such attacks will not remain unanswered.
