MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Presidential candidate and former National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar on Monday said the creation of a temporary government for peace and stability in the country was his top priority.

Addressing a gathering in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, Atmar pledged to work jointly with others for freedom, welfare and justice in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The gathering marked the death anniversary of Marshal Qasim Farhim.

Jamiat Islami Party’s Executive Chief Atta Mohammad Noor and other senior figures of his team were present at the gathering.

Atmar hailed Noor’s mission in Balkh and pledged to continue Noor’s mission in Balkh if his team succeeded in election. Atmar, however, did not say what was Noor’s mission.

Referring to violence which erupted after the appointment of the new police chief in Balkh recently, Atmar said breaking of promises, use of force and intimidation by the government had spread hatred among people.

He asked the government to implement its promise made with the people of Balkg after the appointment of new police chief.

Atmar alleged the government was not interested in peace talks and was deliberately trying to derail the peace process. He warned that harming the peace process would lead to dangerous consequences.
