Most Baghlan schools without buildings, drinking water facility

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Hundreds of schools in northern Baghlan province have no buildings and facility for clean drinking water, educationinfo-icon officials and students said on Tuesday.

Hangamai Walizada, the student of Gohar Shad High School’s 7th class told Pajhwok Afghan News, they had been studying under an old tent from the past few years.

“Huge amount of money spent on education sector over the years, but no progress was made in the education sector of Baghlan.”

Nazia, the student of Kan High School in Pul-i-Khumri, said there is not a single school in Baghlan where everything will be all right.

Abdul Shakour, in charge of schools monitoring, confirmed to Pajhwok that most of the schools in Baghlan have no building and the students had been faced with multiple problems.

Education Director Syed Ismael Mujahid said hundreds of schools in Baghlan were without buildings and the student study in open area.

He said of the total 596 schools in Baghlan 214 are without buildings while 369 have no drinking water facility while 356 were without retaining walls.

Mujahid said the issue had been shared with the ministry who assured to resolve it.
