HEART CITY (Pajhwok): At least four people have been killed as floods hit different parts of western Herat province, local officials say.

The overnight rain-induced flooding caused financial losses in different areas, including Guzfa, Injil, Zindajan, Ghoriyan and Karkh districts.

The provincial capital was also affected, the governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad told Pajhwok Afghan News. Police and army teams were sent to the affected areas.

Marooned families on the outskirts of Herat City were rescued by the teams, which are still providing relief to victims.

Besides killing four individuals, Farhad said, the floods also damaged hundreds of civilian homes, thousands of acres of farm lands, orchards and canals.

Meanwhile, officials warned of more flooding in Herat over the next week. Residents were urged to avoid travelling to areas faced the flood threats.
