Afghanistan, Belarus ink MoUs to promote trade, cultural ties

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon and Belarus on Thursday signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to promote trade, cultural and technical military cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing a joint presser after the first Joint Economic Committee meeting, Economy Minister Mustafa Mastour said: “Growing economic relations between Afghanistan and Belarus are important for economic development, poverty alleviation, generation of jobs and will bring about stability to Afghanistan and the region.”

He said trade volume between the two countries stood at $40 million while there was potential to further increase bilateral trade between the two countries.

According to Mastour, both sides agreed to expand trade and business activities and hoped the MoUs would help improve cooperation between the two countries areas of economy, trade, healthinfo-icon, educationinfo-icon and industry.

Paul Potipin, Belarus minister for industry, assured of his country’s support to Afghanistan in diverse fields including investment in future.

“Officials of different sectors are accompanying us during this trip including the head of tractors producing company and we know this vehicle is commonly used in Afghanistan,” he said.  “We are ready to export tractors to Afghanistan and repair the old ones,” he said.

He showed readiness to open his country’s central bank branch in Afghanistan to facilitate trade activities.
