Flash floods in Samangan, Herat leaving 8 people killed

HEART/AIBAK (Pajhwok): At least eight people have been killed in flash floods that also caused huge financial losses to people in Herat and Samangan provinces, officials said Friday.

Heart governor’s spokesman, Jailani Farhad told Pajhwok Afghan News that rain storms and floods caused huge financial and human losses in Sabzak Kutal area near Herat-Badghis highway .

He said that five people were died in Masjed Chobi area of Karakh district of Heart and the highway was also closed for traffic.

Local people say 15 people were gone missing as result of floods.

On the other hand, Ahmadullah Ahmadi, chief of Dara-i-Suf Payen district of Samangan said that floods flowing as result of heavy rains on Thursday afternoon affected many villages of the district.

He said that three teenagers who were digging a well in Maqsodi area of the district were killed in the floods.

The floods also caused financial losses and more than 10 acres of farmland was damaged, he added.

Rafiullah, a resident of Juja Moqli village of Dara-i-Suf Payen district said that three teenagers lost their lives as result of rain-induced floods gushed into Maqsodi area of the district on Thursday night.

He said all the youths were members of one family. The floods also damaged farmlands, he added.
