Practical work on CASA-1000 project to begin in a week: Ghablib

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Breshna Sherkat (DABS) or power utility on Friday said practical work on the CASA-1000 electricity project would begin in the next seven days.

Under the $1.2 billion project, launched in May 2016, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will supply 1,000 megawatts of electricity to Pakistaninfo-icon and 1,300MW to Afghanistan during the summer.

Amanullah Ghalib, DABS head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the procurement processes for the project had been completed and contracted companies were getting prepared for launching practical work on the plan.

He said that practical work on the project would start in three points of Salang in Sarobi district of capital Kabul and Nangarhar province within a week.

All measures have been taken for starting work on the project which would be officially inaugurated following the government leaders’ direction, he said.

Ghalib said CASA-1000 project was expected to complete within 24 to 30 months.

Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan are responsible for coordinating their activities regarding the project so work on the plan not faces any problems, he said.

He said that 562 kilometer of total 720 kilometers power cable of the project was passing through six provinces of Afghanistan.
