Helmandis blast govt for neglecting southern provinces

Apr 06, 2019 - 15:38

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Hundreds of people held a gathering in the capital of southern Helmand province on Saturday and voiced their support for the ongoing peace efforts but criticized the central government for inattention to southern and southeastern provinces.

The participants of the gathering in Lashkargah included tribal elders, civil activists and youth.

Abdul Haq Zwakman, a civil activist, said the government had turned its back on unemployment, fundamental projects and other several issues in the south and southeast.

“No basic work has been done so far in Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan and Nimroz provinces while residents of these provinces face huge problems,” he explained.

Abdul Ahad Masoumi, a tribal elder, said if the situation continued like this, the people of Helmand would adopt different ways to resolve their problems themselves.

Nazar Mohammad, another participant of the gathering, called on the government to prioritize peace and paving the way for better life of the Afghans who were tired of the war. “I want the central government to pay serious heed to these provinces,” he added.
